How to Breakthrough Paralyzing Self-Doubt and Reach Your Goals

“Adversity is the diamond dust Heaven polishes its jewels with.”

Thomas Carlyle

It feels like you just hit a wall! Well to be more precise – a ceiling.

There is all this talk about living the financially free life, becoming all that you can be. But it’s not happening for you. It seems like you couldn’t breakthrough that glass ceiling and reach your potential.

It’s frustrating. You even start doubting if there is a ceiling in the first place, or just maybe this place where you are in now – IS your potential and this is all you can be.

You have those nights when you question yourself, your fate and the lot your given in life. There is a feeling that creeps inside you that you don’t like to admit but is ever present – DESPAIR.

Just take a step back and take a look at this clip.

That was super! You could just imagine the multiple levels of depair Arthur must have felt being immobile and getting rejected by all the instructors that he looked to for help, except for one that saw hope in him.

Let me ask you something.

Are you immobile?

Well, probably not physically, but deep inside – do you feel that friction from where you are now to where you want to be.

Videos like this can help in getting you moving. It sometimes serves as a catalyst for you to get off your butt and do something different. But alas! Often times, it only lasts momentarily – a day, an hour or a minute – whatever it may be.

It is fleeting.

You get back to the daily grind of life and the magic of inspiration slowly whiffs away into nothingness and you’re back – pedal to the metal running the rat race.

Let me share a personal story with you…

I love my wife. We just got married a few months back and I’m enjoying every second of it! The joy of living together and sharing life’s little experiences with each other is just wonderful beyond compare.

But you know what, it didn’t come without a cost.

In 2010, after coming back from studying abroad, I was offered a foreign post by a top local bank in Korea or Japan. I’ve worked with overseas Filipinos in my previous post for 4 years and am now being given a lucrative opportunity to be one myself.

I turned it down.

My wife, who was still my girlfiend then, and I were at a sensitive period in our relationship at the time. Just coming back from 6 months abroad and turning around to leave  again might be too much torment. I didn’t want to gamble.

I could earn money in different means, but there is only one her.

Ok, I know, a little sappy. But it’s true. And it will get very real in a second.

Since I didn’t take the offer, I had to sit down and assess where I’m going next. I considered joining the corporate life once again but I didn’t like the bureaucracy, especially the politics and definitely HATE the traffic.

So I explored working at home.

I had quite a successful stint being a researcher online at Odesk, that project eventually ended but working online made a lasting impression on me.

It was during one of the seminars I attended on earning online that a fellow participant referred me to the Truly Rich Club of Bo Sanchez. I’ve been familiar with Bo’s name because of his books, but I never knew about this club.

The more I learned about it, the more interested I’ve become. To be honest, I was really into the “RICH” part of the Truly RICH Club. The Stocks Update was instrumental in guiding me towards earning additional income through the stock market. The good thing about his system is that it doesn’t too much time away from me. So I wanted to use my active time to focus on creating an online business.

Those countless hours alone with the computer will wear anyone down. I’d do it before and after my work at our small family business.

It was a total grind. Sacrificing time, energy and those oh-so precious extra minutes of sleep for NO GUARANTEED SUCCESS. There are a lot of times when I face my monitor at 5am in the morning and question why I’m even doing this.

Then with one look at my wife soundly asleep & I remember why.

And there is one more thing.

Remember what I said about the glass ceiling and despair? I had a lot of those. Self-doubt is often a by product of doing something without assurance of results. It tends to make you lean on faith that much more.

The thing that helps me is a solemn prayer. And the strong inspiration from the daily Godwhispers that Bro Bo sends via e-mail. It’s an aspect of the Truly Rich Club that is not widely known but in my opinion, is one of the most powerful features of the club.

Just imagine working tirelessly for hours in front of your screen AFTER an 8 hour workday which entails walking back and forth in the torrid heat. That thought of weariness and surrender will start crawling in your mind. Then you get an e-mail with this message.

“Don’t focus on the negative things happening in your life. Accept it, don’t deny it, but don’t dwell on it.”

P.S. focus instead on what I am telling you through these circumstances.

It makes me step back and soak everything in. It helps me keep going while I erstwhile would have stopped or produced sub-par work. And this type of message is sent daily.

By plugging away little by little, I was even able to write an e-book on Mandarin Chinese idioms, get featured a few times on international sites/blogs, write for a nationally published magazine and even became part of Go Negosyo’s Technopreneur Summit as a panelist.

I’m by no means a success. I’m still a warrior waking up each morning fighting my battles. Still searching for my definite path. But by having my motivation with me (wife) and in front of me (Godwhispers) all the time, the inspiration seldom waivers.

And if you’re wondering if you want to start something today but are worrying of the time it will take to accomplish it, take a look at this

“Don’t let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use.”

– Earl Nightingale
